Husky the Muskie is getting a facelift! Fiberglass Mat And Resin
The City of Kenora announced on Friday that Kenora’s iconic mascot, Husky the Muskie, is to receive extensive restoration over the coming weeks.
The City has hired Dinosaur Valley Studios, a company from Alberta, to carry out the major updates.
Rehabilitation work is expected to begin on Friday, June 10, and be completed by Monday, June 20.
“Husky the Muskie is an icon in the City of Kenora for residents and visitors,” said Mayor Daniel Reynard.
“The City is thrilled to begin work on this project to restore this important attraction in our community.”
Husky the Muskie was originally constructed in 1967 as part of the Canadian Centennial project by the Kenora Chamber of Commerce as a symbol to bring awareness to Ontario’s lakes and the prevention of water pollution.
Husky the Muskie has become an iconic part of Kenora’s branding and imagery, even becoming a landmark and roadside attraction for local residents and seasonal visitors.
The original construction included a ton of steel, 36 sheets of plywood, 3,500 bolts, 700 lbs. of resin, 500 square feet of fibreglass matting and countless tubes of multi-coloured paints. Since its original installation, the structure has been restored twice; once in 1980 and then again in 1994. It is now time once again to undertake the rehabilitation of the beloved monument.
